The Heart of Service at EWC
At Empowerment Worship Centre, we believe that true greatness is revealed in service, not status. The world defines greatness by status, achievement, and applause — but Jesus redefined greatness in Matthew 20:20–28.
In His Kingdom, greatness is not about how many people serve you, but about how faithfully you serve others.
Greatness by God’s Selection, Not Self-Ambition
The seats of honor in God’s Kingdom are not seized by ambition or earned through competition. They are prepared by the Father (John 15:16). Our calling is not to chase titles, but to step into what God has already chosen for us.
Like seats reserved at a banquet, your place in the Kingdom has been marked out long before you arrived.
Greatness is Revealed in Service
The Greek word for servant, diakonos, literally means “one who waits on tables.” In the Kingdom of God, discipleship is measured not by platforms but by towels — not by applause but by assignments.
Great disciples are remembered for service, not status.
They are driven by obedience, not applause.
The towel will outlast the throne.
As Galatians 5:13 reminds us: “Serve one another humbly in love.”
Two Dimensions of Kingdom Service
1. Service in Surrender (Doulos)
Jesus calls us to serve as doulos — bondslaves, living fully for the will of our Master. This is not casual service; it is total surrender. Philippians 2:7–8 shows us that Christ Himself modeled this, taking the form of a servant.
“To be Christ’s slave is the highest liberty, and His servant is the greatest dignity.” — Charles Spurgeon
2. Service in Sacrifice
The pinnacle of greatness is sacrificial service. Jesus didn’t just serve in words; He gave His life as a ransom for many (Matthew 20:28). True service costs something, and it is this kind of service that transforms lives and glorifies God.
Missionaries who left comfort.
Parents who tirelessly love.
Disciples who lay down their rights for the sake of others.
“Service that costs you nothing changes nothing.”
The Crown and the Towel
The world crowns greatness with medals.
Heaven crowns greatness with service.
Jesus came not to be served, but to serve.
At EWC, we follow His example:
We serve with humility.
We surrender fully to His will.
We sacrifice for the sake of His Kingdom.
The world chases crowns; disciples carry towels.
This is the heart of service. This is the greatness of a disciple.
A heart of service
Philippians 2:3–8
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross..
John 12:26. 26
Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be.
My Father will honor the one who serves me.
